Confused Clerics

since 2021, Founding of a company

Digital product design | Community maintainace on Instagram & Patreon | Organization and strategic leadership of a company | Social media marketing

Independent founding and management of a now seven-person company that works as a content creator for the pen-and-paper role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons.

We started by publishing self-written content for the Dungeons and Dragons game on Instagram. With growing subscriber numbers and an ever-expanding community, the venture has evolved into a company with more than 17 thousand followers from all over the globe. The main focus of the work is to create and write the content and to design the entire account in the sense of a corporate design.

In addition to a global community, globally dispersed partners are also quickly added. Supervising joint projects and the exchange among colleagues from different continents is becoming commonplace.

As the community continues to grow, the company was founded as a registered partnership. Organisational tasks are added to the team leadership.

After one and a half years, the business areas were expanded. The first step towards monetisation was taken with the opening of a Patreon page. On Patreon, customers can sign up for a monthly subscription to receive exclusive content and products. Therefore, a complete redesign of our appearance as Confused Clerics was made. We also developed a completely new digital product range.

The new product range now includes not only Instagram posts, but also ready-to-print playing cards and books made available in PDF format.

The development of Kickstarter projects and print media also continues apace.

With the upcoming registration as a limited company, the team has also been expanded. More graphic designers and digital artists have enriched the team and offer possibilities for new products in the future to realise our vision of becoming the largest provider for D&D equipment.

Our company now consists of 7 people who work in various areas to drive the vision forward.

Professional X - BT Soundbox

2021, Corporate design project

Corporate Design | Working with a corporate design manual | CAD-modeling and model making

The task of the project was to design a bluetooth speaker in the corporate design of an existing brand. Therefore I analyzed the distinctive produkt- and brand features of EGO-Powertools to design a loud speaker from the results. At the beginning of the project, we were allowed to choose a brand that we found appealing. I deliberately chose EGO because it is a progressive brand that focuses on new technologies and sustainability. After looking at the product portfolio of the Professional X series with Mr Stemmer from EGO-Powertools, I came up with a concept for the product and brand language.

The Bluetooth speaker adopts the typical design features of the EGO-Powertools Professional X series. During the research, not only the corporate design manual but also the historical development of the product range were consulted in order to achieve this.

The basic shape is based on the core of the EGO-Powertools product range, the rechargeable battery. The classic rectangular shape with wide phases on the sides brings up a familiar image in the mind.

The front sides and the grille are oriented towards the leaf blower of the series. The strong edges that characterise the products are in focus. The positioning of the logo is also based on the leaf blower. As with all EGO-Powertools tools, the logo is visible from both sides. This means it is always visible, regardless of where the speaker is used. The controls also pick up the language of the Professional X series products. The design of the On-Of button is based on the switch of the leaf blower. The font on the display shows the classic font of the EGO advertisements.

Finally, only the colour is added. In the spirit of the Professionals X series, a balance between the EGO black and the EGO grey was aimed for. Components and places that are noticeable through a function are highlighted with the EGO green.

The result is a loudspeaker that can be integrated into the EGO-Powertools product range and reflects the product language of EGO-Powertools in all facets. In the spirit of the project, the loudspeaker has been given the working title "SB X 6000 - Professional-X BT Soundbox" (based on the naming of the EGO-Powertools products).

The project has currently been passed on to the development department of EGO-Powertools.

The Soaper

since 2022, Product design project

Product design | Projectpresentation and pitching | Concept validation and business model development  | model making and CAD-modeling

Liquid soap causes a huge amount of problems. Soap dispensers break down regularly, immense waste in public toilets and a gigantic amount of plastic waste. We have to do better. And we will. Because our project team has been working on a new innovative solution for soap in public spaces.

The Soaper is built on replacing liquid soap with paper soap. What is it? Paper soap is small pieces of water-soluble paper coated with soap. On contact with water, the paper dissolves and the pre-portioned soap remains. Easy to use and more environmentally friendly than the wasteful liquid soap.

A core aspect of the project was a detailed adaptation to the needs of the customers and users. Of course, we did extensive desk research for this. But we also conducted many stakeholder interviews and self-tests to maximise customer orientation. For this, we also repeatedly went back to re-validate our findings from the work.

The design has gone through many drafts and different approaches. Constantly looking at and questioning the current state of design has always led to the best possible solution in terms of design, technology and intuitive use.

The finished product is a paper soap dispenser for public spaces. The design, kept simple and clean. The colours, discreet and usable in any toilet. The technical concept, simple and fail-safe.

The Soaper uses only 2/3 of the water of conventional solutions, holds ten times the washing units and saves a gigantic amount of plastic waste.

For its innovative potential, The Soaper has already won bronze at the goAward of the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd and received great encouragement at several pitches. The project is being continued and worked out until it is ready for the market. With our team, we are perfectly up to this challenge.

2022, Birdhouse

Basics of three dimensional design | Variant creation and work with moods | CAD-modeling

The task was to freely design a birdhouse. The entire working process of a product design is to be gone through, as well as the reworking for a customer. At the beginning, the task is to find a basic shape. The aim is to develop as many variants of the shapes as possible in order to extract the best designs. With these, variants are created again until a shape is so interesting from an aesthetic point of view that an advanced design can be developed from it.

After many drafts, two formal directions stand out. Inspired by a mood (a curved staircase), the different designs are processed to finally find the final form.

The final birdhouse is made of stone-shifted plastic, which gives it a unique surface and feel. The dual materiality is realised by alternating between concrete and granite additions to the plastic.
